Scotts EZ Seed Coupon and Preview

One of the newest ideas in lawn improvement over the last couple years has been to create a simple product that includes everything all in one package: soil, grass seed and fertilizer.

Scotts EZ Seed is now available from Amazon.com!

The latest entry into the “all-in-one” market is Scotts Turf Builder EZ Seed mix. I’m going to be giving this product a try in a couple different areas of my yard because I just signed up for a $5 Coupon from Scotts that I’m going to try in the next couple days.

In case you haven’t seen the commercials, Scotts is advertising that their new Turf Builder EZ Seed can actually grow grass on a cinder block. The mixture includes a “revolutionary seeding mix” that has a “super-absorbent material that expands to surround the seed in a moist, protective layer.” Scotts EZ Seed is designed to be a simple method for planting grass seed with as little effort as possible. I’m not even sure if you have to worry about it being the best time to plant grass seed with this mix.

The web videos and commercials make it look a little bit like a mix between potting soil and wood pulp insulation. Basically, you just spread the Turf Builder EZ Seed right from the plastic canister and water. That’s it. No scratching the surface, no extra soil, nothing. The EZ Seed mixture actually turns lighter when it needs more water, so you just moisten it until it’s dark and let it go.

It appears to be a mixture of seed, soil and fertilizer, all mixed together in one container. From what I can tell it’s a pre-packaged high-tech version of my own easy method for planting grass seed.

You can sign up for your $5 Scotts coupon from their website and then you can give this grass seed a try for yourself. You will get an email sent to you with a link in it.

That link takes you to a special website from which you have to install a little “coupon printer” program to print the actual coupon. Yes, the process for getting the coupon from Scotts is a bit confusing. I’m not a big fan of having to install a piece of software to print a $5 coupon, but curiosity got the better of me and I went for it.

Don’t worry if you can’t find it in your local stores yet (I couldn’t), you can buy Scotts EZ Seed online (without the coupon) if you really want to give it a shot. I’ll review the Scotts EZ seed formula if I can get my hands on it from a store around here.

Update: Want to learn more about Scotts EZ Seed and see how it does in my own review and grass growing test? Check out my full Scotts EZ Seed review! I’ll run it for 30 days and post the results.

Okay… It looks like some of you can’t get to the Scott’s EZ Seed coupon. Here’s what you do:

    1. Visit http://scottsezseed.com/

    2. It’s a page that should look like this: Scotts EZ Seed Coupon Page. If you don’t see that page, then I don’t know what to tell you. It still works for me. There are three cities listed: Chicago, Columbus and Other.

    3. Click on “Other” and fill out the online form with your information.

    4. Then you’re asked to download a program which you install.

    5. After installing the program you run it and it prints the coupon for you one time. It’s kind of a wacky way of giving you a coupon, but it worked for me.

My problem is this: I have a coupon for Scott’s EZ seed which expires at the end of June, but I can’t find the stuff anywhere! It’s quite possible that you can only get to the online coupon if you’re in certain parts of the country. I’m in New Jersey and it works fine for me.

So again Scotts is faking the coupon offer. You have to be a damn good detective to find the $5.00 disc.coupon. I’m not that good, nor do I have the patience to deal with a defacto scam. I’ll stay away from SCOTT PRODUCTS in the future.

I use all Scott products on my lawn. Would love to try the E-Z seed for a very diffucult area but could not find the coupon!

  12. Raine68 on September 14, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Worked for me, Boston area. On that page I see a big bold line that reads, “Where did you see the commercial for Scotts Turf Builder EZ Seed?” and I Chose Boston. If you don’t see a drop-down menu that says “Choose City” on the first page then the coupons probably aren’t available in your area. They are only available in select citys and the site can tell approximately where you are visiting from. Guess the coupon is only for certain parts of country.

  13. nick pazz on September 19, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I purchased 2 bottles of EZ seed and it did not work.

  14. jose on September 20, 2009 at 5:47 pm

we love ez seed!!! didn’t believe it worked but it did. the grass grew in a week, looking fluffy and green and continued to grow in. the most important thing was the water, lots of it needed. it did turn a lighter color when it didn’t get enough water like the commercial says. we did prep the spots with other grass seeds. used three containers for not alot of space, like 10×10 plot. the 10lb. bag is a better bet.

  15. Joe Giamanco on October 4, 2009 at 5:37 pm

Just saw the Scotts EZ Seed ad on TV (10-04-09) stating that a $5.00 coupon is available at its web site. Immediately went to the web site and it says “The coupon is no longer available.” Seems like a big come on by Scotts, shame on them!!

  16. Tom on October 5, 2009 at 3:57 am

I really think it’s a regional thing. So if you can’t get the coupon from your PC at home, maybe call a relative or friend who lives somewhere else I try it. My father who lives in another state says he can’t get the coupon, but I can still get to it.

  17. Carrol on March 11, 2010 at 12:40 pm

Isn’t this fraudulent advertising. We got the information from TV commercial about Scotts EZseed but I get the advertisement but cannot open the site for the coupon. Just a great big come-on advertisement to get peoples interest. Now I’m not so sure I want to buy this product since it could be just a big lie about how it works.

  18. Bill Toasty on March 12, 2010 at 8:39 pm

Stupid Me !!! I went for this scam. I had to sign up for some coupon site
in -order to get the $5 coupon. Guess what – It’s not there now I am most
likely have my on every e-mail sales site in the world.

  19. Ellie on March 13, 2010 at 8:55 am

Does anyone use google? Just type in $5.00 coupon Scotts EZ then click on “I’m feeling lucky”, takes you right to it, not rocket science… Reviews should be on how the product works not “problems finding coupons”… just saying.

  20. Sheila on March 14, 2010 at 9:23 pm

Scotts should have to be penalized for offering coupons, then making it impossible to get one !! Shame on that company. When it is offered in an area, that area should be able to get it. !!

  21. yvonne palmer on March 18, 2010 at 11:07 am

i was going to get your product today, however,l after reading the comments from people who could not get a coupon (i could not get one either) i am not going to try the new product EZ seed. bait and switch is not a bad as your commercials and offer.

  22. Fred J Belli on March 19, 2010 at 5:47 pm

I finally found the site, downloaded the coupon printer option, and when I got back to print my coupon it said I already printed the required coupons. Well, ot didn’t print nothing. What a ripoff Scotts is. I always trusted you guys, now I don’t know.

  23. Tom on March 20, 2010 at 5:14 am

I’ll be honest with you all: I just downloaded a second coupon.. Not sure why some people can’t get the EZ Seed coupon while some people can get more than one. Again, the process of downloading the Scotts software to install a program that prints a $5 coupon for EZ seed is a little tedious.

If the Scotts website says you’ve already downloaded the coupon, then try to do it again from a different computer in the house or maybe at work. I’m guessing the Scotts coupon process is checking your computer’s IP address or something to try to limit distribution, but it would seem that the process is just frustrating a lot of people. Have any of you tried to call the Scotts EZ seed coupon support phone number? You might have better luck that way…

  24. Larry on March 21, 2010 at 5:01 pm

You can get the coupon at http://www.scottsezseed.com. Not usable in Canada.

  25. Julianjim on March 21, 2010 at 8:43 pm

After looking at all the bad comments about scotts ez seed, I’m not risking any possible computer virus. I’ve had good results with good old horse crap in the past. Living at 4500 feet in the mountians, the way things are done changes! Thanks Scotts but NO thanks!

  26. Tom on March 22, 2010 at 4:57 pm

I downloaded a second Scotts EZ seed coupon this season (once last year, once this year) and there was no computer virus or any other such nonsense. You just download the software, install it and then run it. It prints a coupon. You uninstall the little software program and you save yourself $5.. done.

I think Scotts does it so people aren’t printing out stacks of coupons… They probably don’t like selling their product for 30% off all the time… Interestingly, last year the plastic canister cost something like $24 at my local store. This weekend I was able to buy it for $15 (-$5 coupon)… Not a bad deal if you need grass in a hurry. I’m running an experiment with Scotts EZ Seed vs my own grass planting method now. I’ll post about it soon…

  27. Bonnie Sanderson on March 25, 2010 at 11:28 am

    Can’t find the coupon. I have a campsite that’s about 2 acres.

  28. Terrie Cochran on March 29, 2010 at 10:28 am

How does that work for everyone?

  30. Chris on April 2, 2010 at 9:52 am

I attempted to print this coupon several times, each time it kept saying I did not have the coupon printer installed and had me install it again. Since I could never get it to work I called the number on the Scott’s EZ Seed coupon page: “877-332-0751″. They say that they are going to mail me the coupon.

  31. Paula Zickert on April 2, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Found the coupon right away and it printed beautifully. I have trouble areas where the dogs run and this winter has been tough. For those of you who do not know how to use a computer, sorry about your luck. I will let you know how the product works. Several individuals I know tried it and loved it.

  34. Roy Scott on April 5, 2010 at 4:37 pm

    Might try turning off cookies.

  35. Linda on April 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm

I filled out the whole questionnaire and when I went to print the coupon it didn’t print. I think it’s a scam by Scott’s to get your info!

THANKS TOM, found the site thanks to the address you posted; downloaded the print program, and printed the coupon! HOME DEPOT in MD., had the bags, but you have to be careful, they had alot of old stock in front. The product works, I used it last year under the car port, but you have to put it down heavy. AGAIN THANKS “TOM”!!!

  39. Jerry on April 7, 2010 at 4:55 pm

I don’t know what everyone’s problem is. I saw the commerical a few minutes ago and proceeded to print the coupon. No problems at all.

Commercial for EZ seed looks great and I wanted to try it but now they say the coupon is not available. Does not sound good to me. I am a senior and I try to keep my lawn nice and green and tidy so $5 coupon helps. These commercials have only been on a short time and in fact, they are being run right now as we chat and they are still advertising the coupon. Scott’s name has always been associated with quality products so please keep this in mind regarding this coupon. I live in Canada and would appreciate your comments.

  43. Carla DuPratt on April 8, 2010 at 10:15 am

my computer would not let me print a coupon, said there was a virus.

I like what I here bout the way the product works an intend to use it on my problem areas..

  46. Mark on April 9, 2010 at 8:47 pm

People. It’s only $5.00. Some of you are acting like not getting this coupon is the end of civilization as we know it. Man.
