Scotts EZ Seed Coupon and Preview

One of the newest ideas in lawn improvement over the last couple years has been to create a simple product that includes everything all in one package: soil, grass seed and fertilizer.

The latest entry into the “all-in-one” market is Scotts Turf Builder EZ Seed mix. I’m going to be giving this product a try in a couple different areas of my yard because I just signed up for a $5 Coupon from Scotts that I’m going to try in the next couple days.

In case you haven’t seen the commercials, Scotts is advertising that their new Turf Builder EZ Seed can actually grow grass on a cinder block. The mixture includes a “revolutionary seeding mix” that has a “super-absorbent material that expands to surround the seed in a moist, protective layer.” Scotts EZ Seed is designed to be a simple method for planting grass seed with as little effort as possible. I’m not even sure if you have to worry about it being the best time to plant grass seed with this mix.

The web videos and commercials make it look a little bit like a mix between potting soil and wood pulp insulation. Basically, you just spread the Turf Builder EZ Seed right from the plastic canister and water. That’s it. No scratching the surface, no extra soil, nothing. The EZ Seed mixture actually turns lighter when it needs more water, so you just moisten it until it’s dark and let it go.

It appears to be a mixture of seed, soil and fertilizer, all mixed together in one container. From what I can tell it’s a pre-packaged high-tech version of my own easy method for planting grass seed.

You can sign up for your $5 Scotts coupon from their website and then you can give this grass seed a try for yourself. You will get an email sent to you with a link in it.

That link takes you to a special website from which you have to install a little “coupon printer” program to print the actual coupon. Yes, the process for getting the coupon from Scotts is a bit confusing. I’m not a big fan of having to install a piece of software to print a $5 coupon, but curiosity got the better of me and I went for it.

Don’t worry if you can’t find it in your local stores yet (I couldn’t), you can buy Scotts EZ Seed online (without the coupon) if you really want to give it a shot. I’ll review the Scotts EZ seed formula if I can get my hands on it from a store around here.

Update: Want to learn more about Scotts EZ Seed and see how it does in my own review and grass growing test? Check out my full Scotts EZ Seed review! I’ll run it for 30 days and post the results.

Okay… It looks like some of you can’t get to the Scott’s EZ Seed coupon. Here’s what you do:

    1. Visit http://scottsezseed.com/

    2. It’s a page that should look like this: Scotts EZ Seed Coupon Page. If you don’t see that page, then I don’t know what to tell you. It still works for me. There are three cities listed: Chicago, Columbus and Other.

    3. Click on “Other” and fill out the online form with your information.

    4. Then you’re asked to download a program which you install.

    5. After installing the program you run it and it prints the coupon for you one time. It’s kind of a wacky way of giving you a coupon, but it worked for me.

My problem is this: I have a coupon for Scott’s EZ seed which expires at the end of June, but I can’t find the stuff anywhere! It’s quite possible that you can only get to the online coupon if you’re in certain parts of the country. I’m in New Jersey and it works fine for me.

  7. Comment by Robert Krueger

So again Scotts is faking the coupon offer. You have to be a damn good detective to find the $5.00 disc.coupon. I’m not that good, nor do I have the patience to deal with a defacto scam. I’ll stay away from SCOTT PRODUCTS in the future.

I use all Scott products on my lawn. Would love to try the E-Z seed for a very diffucult area but could not find the coupon!

  13. Comment by Raine68

Worked for me, Boston area. On that page I see a big bold line that reads, “Where did you see the commercial for Scotts Turf Builder EZ Seed?” and I Chose Boston. If you don’t see a drop-down menu that says “Choose City” on the first page then the coupons probably aren’t available in your area. They are only available in select citys and the site can tell approximately where you are visiting from. Guess the coupon is only for certain parts of country.

  14. Comment by nick pazz

I purchased 2 bottles of EZ seed and it did not work.

  15. Comment by jose

we love ez seed!!! didn’t believe it worked but it did. the grass grew in a week, looking fluffy and green and continued to grow in. the most important thing was the water, lots of it needed. it did turn a lighter color when it didn’t get enough water like the commercial says. we did prep the spots with other grass seeds. used three containers for not alot of space, like 10×10 plot. the 10lb. bag is a better bet.

  16. Comment by Joe Giamanco

Just saw the Scotts EZ Seed ad on TV (10-04-09) stating that a $5.00 coupon is available at its web site. Immediately went to the web site and it says “The coupon is no longer available.” Seems like a big come on by Scotts, shame on them!!

  17. Comment by Tom

I really think it’s a regional thing. So if you can’t get the coupon from your PC at home, maybe call a relative or friend who lives somewhere else I try it. My father who lives in another state says he can’t get the coupon, but I can still get to it.

  18. Comment by Carrol

Isn’t this fraudulent advertising. We got the information from TV commercial about Scotts EZseed but I get the advertisement but cannot open the site for the coupon. Just a great big come-on advertisement to get peoples interest. Now I’m not so sure I want to buy this product since it could be just a big lie about how it works.

  19. Comment by Bill Toasty

Stupid Me !!! I went for this scam. I had to sign up for some coupon site
in -order to get the $5 coupon. Guess what – It’s not there now I am most
likely have my on every e-mail sales site in the world.

  20. Comment by Ellie

Does anyone use google? Just type in $5.00 coupon Scotts EZ then click on “I’m feeling lucky”, takes you right to it, not rocket science… Reviews should be on how the product works not “problems finding coupons”… just saying.

  21. Comment by Sheila

Scotts should have to be penalized for offering coupons, then making it impossible to get one !! Shame on that company. When it is offered in an area, that area should be able to get it. !!

  22. Comment by yvonne palmer

i was going to get your product today, however,l after reading the comments from people who could not get a coupon (i could not get one either) i am not going to try the new product EZ seed. bait and switch is not a bad as your commercials and offer.

  23. Comment by Fred J Belli

I finally found the site, downloaded the coupon printer option, and when I got back to print my coupon it said I already printed the required coupons. Well, ot didn’t print nothing. What a ripoff Scotts is. I always trusted you guys, now I don’t know.

  24. Comment by Tom

I’ll be honest with you all: I just downloaded a second coupon.. Not sure why some people can’t get the EZ Seed coupon while some people can get more than one. Again, the process of downloading the Scotts software to install a program that prints a $5 coupon for EZ seed is a little tedious.

If the Scotts website says you’ve already downloaded the coupon, then try to do it again from a different computer in the house or maybe at work. I’m guessing the Scotts coupon process is checking your computer’s IP address or something to try to limit distribution, but it would seem that the process is just frustrating a lot of people. Have any of you tried to call the Scotts EZ seed coupon support phone number? You might have better luck that way…

  25. Comment by Larry

You can get the coupon at http://www.scottsezseed.com. Not usable in Canada.

  26. Comment by Julianjim

After looking at all the bad comments about scotts ez seed, I’m not risking any possible computer virus. I’ve had good results with good old horse crap in the past. Living at 4500 feet in the mountians, the way things are done changes! Thanks Scotts but NO thanks!

  27. Comment by Tom

I downloaded a second Scotts EZ seed coupon this season (once last year, once this year) and there was no computer virus or any other such nonsense. You just download the software, install it and then run it. It prints a coupon. You uninstall the little software program and you save yourself $5.. done.

I think Scotts does it so people aren’t printing out stacks of coupons… They probably don’t like selling their product for 30% off all the time… Interestingly, last year the plastic canister cost something like $24 at my local store. This weekend I was able to buy it for $15 (-$5 coupon)… Not a bad deal if you need grass in a hurry. I’m running an experiment with Scotts EZ Seed vs my own grass planting method now. I’ll post about it soon…

  28. Comment by Bonnie Sanderson

    Can’t find the coupon. I have a campsite that’s about 2 acres.

  29. Comment by Terrie Cochran

I to did not get a $5.00 coupon, and I just saw this on tv last night. 3/28/10.

    Please e-mail me a coupon!!!

    Thank You

  30. Comment by Tom

Okay, if you want to jump right to the Scotts EZ Seed coupon page, you can try the link below:

How does that work for everyone?

  31. Comment by Chris

I attempted to print this coupon several times, each time it kept saying I did not have the coupon printer installed and had me install it again. Since I could never get it to work I called the number on the Scott’s EZ Seed coupon page: “877-332-0751″. They say that they are going to mail me the coupon.

THANKS TOM, found the site thanks to the address you posted; downloaded the print program, and printed the coupon! HOME DEPOT in MD., had the bags, but you have to be careful, they had alot of old stock in front. The product works, I used it last year under the car port, but you have to put it down heavy. AGAIN THANKS “TOM”!!!

  40. Comment by Jerry

I don’t know what everyone’s problem is. I saw the commerical a few minutes ago and proceeded to print the coupon. No problems at all.

    Thanks, Judy

  43. Comment by janet spence

Commercial for EZ seed looks great and I wanted to try it but now they say the coupon is not available. Does not sound good to me. I am a senior and I try to keep my lawn nice and green and tidy so $5 coupon helps. These commercials have only been on a short time and in fact, they are being run right now as we chat and they are still advertising the coupon. Scott’s name has always been associated with quality products so please keep this in mind regarding this coupon. I live in Canada and would appreciate your comments.

  44. Comment by Carla DuPratt

my computer would not let me print a coupon, said there was a virus.

  45. Comment by Del Sanford

I printed you coupon for 5.00 dollars off Scott EZ seeds. Home Depot Plaistow NH refused to accept it. Do you mail coupons for stores like this?

I seen the tv commercial used the address the commercial gavew and printed the coupon in less than three minutes.. note to people that don’t know.. you have to allow pop-ups to be able to get to and print the coupon.. I like what I here bout the way the product works an intend to use it on my problem areas..

  48. Comment by Mark

People. It’s only $5.00. Some of you are acting like not getting this coupon is the end of civilization as we know it. Man.

  49. Comment by Pat

I tried clicking on all sites to print $5.00 coupon for Scott EZ Seed and all I got was a run around ,then back to original site, Very frustrating, Please e-mail me my $5.00 coupon that I can print. Pat

THANK YOU #30 now maybe that will be the end of the coupon b!tch!ng.
so many of you are HUNG UP on thinking Scotts is tricking you. Because that’s what they do -try and frustrate their potential customers.

I was really looking for an over all opinion on how the product worked.

  58. Comment by h.collazo

Followed all instructions to get to coupon….unable to get it, loyal scotts brand user…will try product with coupon…now u have my info. please e-mail coupon..make me a believer of offer…vigoro stands by their promos.

  59. Comment by Sharon Chaisson

Tried clicking on all the provided links and cannot get to the coupon. Very disheartening.

  60. Comment by TIM MYERS

I can’t download the coupon either. I did learn that the installing of the printer program loads a tracking cookie onto your computer. I am disappointed that a company like Scotts would be so sneaky and underhanded. Why can’t they just get the coupon out there easily if the product is so good?

  61. Comment by Tim Hume

I tried to get to your $5.00 coupon and kept getting directed to another page.
You don’t make it very easy do you.
    Thanks.

  62. Comment by Scott Mackay

Found it in 2 minutes, thanks some people need to stay out of the sun. Great product worked excellent in shady area.

  63. Comment by Robert

why do you have a coupon only good in the
United States??? What about us in Canada !!!

  64. Comment by E Krupa

Yes I tried on 2 different days to print the coupon, tried to install the coupon printer, but because of the tracking cookies assoc with that program could not print it and I do like the previous comment do not like this method you feel you need to get this printed.

  65. Comment by Cal Halfacre

This is acomplete waste of time on false advertizing, cant trust this company to live up to their add about 5.00 coupon so why trust the product.

  66. Comment by nancy

Ok Printed the coupon…..BUT….Home Depot would NOT honor it..sooooo I emailed Scotts, was told some Home Depot & Lowes wont take..but I was given address to send in my coupon & sales receipt to get the $5.00..now im waiting for that & for the grass to come..lol

  67. Comment by Ann

    No coupon: stop advertizing it!!

  68. Comment by JSC

It took 3 times of repeating the process…filling out the form plus downloading and installing the coupon printer to get the coupon to print. Be patient and keep trying.

  69. Comment by DJ Taylor

I can’t believe that a reputable company would make it so hard to get their coupon! Have they even read all these comments! I really thought I wanted to get their product, but I am leaving this site NOW !!!!

  70. Comment by Carol Bartolomucci

I just saw it on TV tonight 4-25-2010, I went to the site & followed the instructions & I got to print my coupon out with no problem! Can’t wait to try this product out! Good luck to the ones who can’t figure out how to print their coupons out!

  74. Comment by nancy

Well Im still waiting for my $5.00 from Scotts, also still waiting for the Grass to Grow!!!….been a few weeks and NOTHING!!!..so disappointed in this :(…maybe I should put down some cinder blocks then it will grow..LOL…Good Luck to u Liz, maybe it will take 4 u..me, im going to buy something else !!

  75. Comment by Carol C

was not able to print coupon — a waste of time – was then inundated with other coupons which I did not want or sign up for.

  76. Comment by Joe

I can’t believe all the negative postings listed here. The coupon prints if you do what the computer asks you to do. First go the the right ScottsEZSeed website, not to any of the coupon sites that come up in a google search. Then download the program and run it. If it still doesn’t print call the Scotts number 877-332-0751. Pretty simple.

  77. Comment by Jennifer

I printed the coupon and went down to my local Menard’s and they flat out REFUSED the coupon and will not accept ANY web-printed coupons. DO NOT TRY AND USE COUPON AT MENARDS!!! This was at the Morton Grove, IL location. I even had a manager come and flat out explain WHY this was their policy…so I left with my coupon and WITHOUT my grass seed. I will be reporting my aggrivation to Scotts after they spend all that money on tv commercials and promotion.

  78. Comment by TIM MYERS

I e-mailed Scotts and they mailed me the coupon. It came about 10 days later. I already bought the seed. It is a waste of money. It is about $20. for enough to plant about three square feet at the suggested depth of 1/8 inch for the mixture. Cheaper to install oriental carpet over your lawn.

  79. Comment by raja

I bought this using another 10% coupon. Its expensive ($30 in Homedepot pittsburgh,PA). I used it. grass is coming up nicely and slowly. But i can tell this. Its a mixture of 70% soil + 20% seeds + 10% lawn fertilizer. Its damn expensive, but used it under tree shade.

  80. Comment by Jennifer

I was having trouble printing the $5.00 off coupon, so I called their customer care number “877-332-0751″ and they were very helpful and said I would be receiving my coupon in the mail within 3-5 days.

  81. Comment by Karen

Whats up with the coupon I cant get it tried for a long time not worth buying your product
