Scotts EZ Seed Coupon and Preview

One of the newest ideas in lawn improvement over the last couple years has been to create a simple product that includes everything all in one package: soil, grass seed and fertilizer.

Scotts EZ Seed is now available from Amazon.com!

The latest entry into the “all-in-one” market is Scotts Turf Builder EZ Seed mix. I’m going to be giving this product a try in a couple different areas of my yard because I just signed up for a $5 Coupon from Scotts that I’m going to try in the next couple days.

In case you haven’t seen the commercials, Scotts is advertising that their new Turf Builder EZ Seed can actually grow grass on a cinder block. The mixture includes a “revolutionary seeding mix” that has a “super-absorbent material that expands to surround the seed in a moist, protective layer.” Scotts EZ Seed is designed to be a simple method for planting grass seed with as little effort as possible. I’m not even sure if you have to worry about it being the best time to plant grass seed with this mix.

The web videos and commercials make it look a little bit like a mix between potting soil and wood pulp insulation. Basically, you just spread the Turf Builder EZ Seed right from the plastic canister and water. That’s it. No scratching the surface, no extra soil, nothing. The EZ Seed mixture actually turns lighter when it needs more water, so you just moisten it until it’s dark and let it go.

It appears to be a mixture of seed, soil and fertilizer, all mixed together in one container. From what I can tell it’s a pre-packaged high-tech version of my own easy method for planting grass seed.

You can sign up for your $5 Scotts coupon from their website and then you can give this grass seed a try for yourself. You will get an email sent to you with a link in it.

That link takes you to a special website from which you have to install a little “coupon printer” program to print the actual coupon. Yes, the process for getting the coupon from Scotts is a bit confusing. I’m not a big fan of having to install a piece of software to print a $5 coupon, but curiosity got the better of me and I went for it.

Don’t worry if you can’t find it in your local stores yet (I couldn’t), you can buy Scotts EZ Seed online (without the coupon) if you really want to give it a shot. I’ll review the Scotts EZ seed formula if I can get my hands on it from a store around here.

Update: Want to learn more about Scotts EZ Seed and see how it does in my own review and grass growing test? Check out my full Scotts EZ Seed review! I’ll run it for 30 days and post the results.

THANK YOU #30 now maybe that will be the end of the coupon b!tch!ng.
so many of you are HUNG UP on thinking Scotts is tricking you. Because that’s what they do -try and frustrate their potential customers.

I was really looking for an over all opinion on how the product worked.

  7. Sharon Chaisson on April 16, 2010 at 5:17 am

Tried clicking on all the provided links and cannot get to the coupon. Very disheartening.

  8. TIM MYERS on April 17, 2010 at 9:00 pm

I can’t download the coupon either. I did learn that the installing of the printer program loads a tracking cookie onto your computer. I am disappointed that a company like Scotts would be so sneaky and underhanded. Why can’t they just get the coupon out there easily if the product is so good?

  9. Tim Hume on April 18, 2010 at 3:38 pm

I tried to get to your $5.00 coupon and kept getting directed to another page.
You don’t make it very easy do you.
    Thanks.

  12. E Krupa on April 21, 2010 at 12:07 pm

Yes I tried on 2 different days to print the coupon, tried to install the coupon printer, but because of the tracking cookies assoc with that program could not print it and I do like the previous comment do not like this method you feel you need to get this printed.

  16. JSC on April 25, 2010 at 7:53 am

It took 3 times of repeating the process…filling out the form plus downloading and installing the coupon printer to get the coupon to print. Be patient and keep trying.

  23. Carol C on May 2, 2010 at 6:17 am

was not able to print coupon — a waste of time – was then inundated with other coupons which I did not want or sign up for.

  24. Joe on May 2, 2010 at 8:52 am

I can’t believe all the negative postings listed here. The coupon prints if you do what the computer asks you to do. First go the the right ScottsEZSeed website, not to any of the coupon sites that come up in a google search. Then download the program and run it. If it still doesn’t print call the Scotts number 877-332-0751. Pretty simple.

  25. Jennifer on May 2, 2010 at 9:17 am

I printed the coupon and went down to my local Menard’s and they flat out REFUSED the coupon and will not accept ANY web-printed coupons. DO NOT TRY AND USE COUPON AT MENARDS!!! This was at the Morton Grove, IL location. I even had a manager come and flat out explain WHY this was their policy…so I left with my coupon and WITHOUT my grass seed. I will be reporting my aggrivation to Scotts after they spend all that money on tv commercials and promotion.

  26. TIM MYERS on May 3, 2010 at 12:40 pm

I e-mailed Scotts and they mailed me the coupon. It came about 10 days later. I already bought the seed. It is a waste of money. It is about $20. for enough to plant about three square feet at the suggested depth of 1/8 inch for the mixture. Cheaper to install oriental carpet over your lawn.

  27. raja on May 5, 2010 at 6:05 am

I bought this using another 10% coupon. Its expensive ($30 in Homedepot pittsburgh,PA). I used it. grass is coming up nicely and slowly. But i can tell this. Its a mixture of 70% soil + 20% seeds + 10% lawn fertilizer. Its damn expensive, but used it under tree shade.

  28. Jennifer on May 12, 2010 at 12:56 pm

I was having trouble printing the $5.00 off coupon, so I called their customer care number “877-332-0751″ and they were very helpful and said I would be receiving my coupon in the mail within 3-5 days.

  29. Karen on June 5, 2010 at 11:39 am

Whats up with the coupon I cant get it tried for a long time not worth buying your product

  30. Richard S. Johnson on September 23, 2010 at 11:20 am

I purchased two containers of Scotts EZ Seed and applied them to spots I worked up in my lawn that were bare. I also used top soil to the bare spots. I must say I was very disappointed.
At the same time I purchased PENNINGTON SMART SEED COMPLETE and applied it the same way. Pennington seed was up in one week.
The area was very thick and now you can’t tell it was re-seeded.
The Scott seed came in very thin. I had to re-seed the area to thicken lawn. I was very dissapointed with Scott. I have been a fan of all Scotts products up to this point. Have used the 4, 2, weed only Scott product, turf builder, and had contracted Scott to do my lawn for a couple of years. (Now I do it myself) You may want to take a look at the EZ Feed again.

excellent product just used it on 1280 square foot backyard new lawn looks amazing was going to spend 600 on sod and only spent 250 for 5 20 pound bags again excellent product highly recommended

  32. art on September 23, 2010 at 9:56 pm

stop being cheap people its only 5 dollars for cying out loud

  33. Gwen on April 1, 2011 at 10:29 am

Judging by the number of comments, I’m not the only one who couldnot print the coupon. I found the site, installed the printer, but the coupon would not print. The system took me back through installing the printer again! Why is it this difficult?? It’s actually false advertising. I have printed coupons (with a bar code)from other companies with just one click. Home depot and Lowes sell the products.
