Heh... Fair assessment, but I haven't lost mine yet :-) That being said, maybe I'll be more careful! Thanks!

That "clever thumb swivel system" for the bag opening isn't so clever - the swivel tabs are not locktited, so they end up vibrating off...of course by the time you notice you have no clue where you lost it/them and no hope of finding them. Replacement bag is like 200 bucks. I ended up cutting two small slits in the bag and using a couple of leather buckled straps from a bike bag so secure the bag shut, but still fairly easy to open. Bad QA and bad engineering on MTD's part.

Richard,

Okay, ya got me stumped :-) Here in New Jersey we usually have a few weeks of cold wet weather (nothing like Ireland, I'm sure) and during that time I pretty much just give up trying to get leaves up. Moisture just weighs down the leaves and turns them into a matted mess. I haven't used my chipper vac with wet leaves too often. It works, but it does get messy and a bit gummy. I usually quit before I risk making it work too hard.

On the plus side, I know first hand that you can use some cheap piping or aluminum duct work to <a href="http://www.homeimprovementsdepot.com/how-to-make-a-gutter-cleaning-vacuum/" rel="nofollow">make a cool gutter vacuum</A> of your own!

Hi Tom, here in Ireland we have an extra problem, it is seldom dry long enough for the leaves to dry out, I am trying to find a way of dealing with wet leaves not just on tarmacadam & concrete but on the lawn and pebbled areas, not to forget the gutters, wet wet wet.. Big problem...

Nadav,

I don't have any leaves that big, but I would think that just about any chipper vac should be able to get them up. The hose attachment might jam a little bit if you're sucking in too many leaves at once and I've learned that I can't just run the chipper vac into a pile of leaves and immediately expect everything to be sucked up. Really, if your regular lawn mower can chop up your leaves than a this chipper vac should definitely be able to do it. You might have to empty your leaves pretty regularly because the bag does fill up pretty quickly (after about 15 minutes) of constant leaf pick up... It's still a HECK of a lot faster than raking and bagging manually...
