Ooo.. a dent?  Did it kind of &quot;mush&quot; in or did it &quot;chip&quot; apart and crumble?  If it just sort of &quot;smooshed&quot; in then I&#039;m guessing you may have put on too much joint compound at once and it just didn&#039;t dry.  I usually only put on shallow layers of joint compound at one time (never much thicker than a cheap cardboard box) of about 1/16th of an inch or so.  

Was it particularly humid when you put up the joint compound?  Humidity can affect how joint compound dries.</description>

		<description>i have a old house ,the walls are bumpy so i got premixed joint compound and smoth it all over the walls. waited 3 days and sanded it. it was smoth so i painted it. when the paint was dried i put a peice of furniture in the room and slighly bumped it. i got a dent in my wall and now im wondering if i used the right joint compound. or will it still harden several days later.?</description>
