Green Home Improvement Projects

I’ve decided to make a new home improvement category for this blog: Green Home Improvements. I didn’t set out to write very many “green” home improvement articles, but the high cost of electricity and gas has in the idea of saving energy merging with the idea of saving the environment. Now the entire idea of being green has really taken off, which means a lot more manufacturers are making home improvement products that are centered on saving energy and being good for the environment.

I’ve even gone back and tagged a few of the older home improvement articles here with the Green Home Improvements category so if you’re looking for some ideas on how to make your home more efficient these articles might be useful.

Here are a few of the past articles about making green home improvements in an energy efficient and maybe even earth-friendly way:

Set your Ceiling Fan Direction Properly: Installing ceiling fans in your home with or without air conditioning is a great low-cost way to add to the value of your home and efficiently cool or even warm your rooms, depending upon which direction your fan is turning.

The Good and Bad of Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs): Those little swirly compact fluorescent light bulbs are everywhere now and they save a lot of energy but they require special care when they break because they do contain trace amounts of poisonous mercury.

The Home Depot’s Eco Options: The Home Depot actually unveiled a whole line of environmentally friendly products a little while ago and you still see these items advertised in weekly circulars from time to time.

It isn’t much yet, but as I add more home improvement articles are I’ll try to keep the environmental and energy conservation aspects of each project in mind!
