Great Home Design Ideas and Steps On How To Build…anything?

There are a lot of cool web sites out there that show you a thousand different ideas for home decor and design projects. Most home sites have a lot of neat designs and clever ideas, but none of them seem offer the sheer magnitude and cleverness of some of the home ideas you’ll find over at Instructibles.com.

The Invisible Book Shelf at Instructibles.com

Learn how to make this and a million other neat home projects over at Instructibles.com.

It’s a site that specializes in giving step-by-step instructions on how to build and how to do just about everything. But all the content is submitted by readers, so you get a lot of clever, unique and sometimes dangerous projects being listed. If you use some common sense and don’t mind the younger crowd then you can find a lot of really neat home ideas. I’ve started visiting them on a regular basis not for actual ideas, but just for inspiration and to see what other people are doing with a lot of free time and some imagination. They even have an category for “home” projects, though I’ve found that the categories are rather loosely assigned and almost misleading at times.

Some of the cool home projects I’m thinking about trying out one day: the Mad Scientist Lights just for fun, the Floating Shoe Rack for our closets, and the Invisible Book Shelf just as a cool conversation piece!

There are, of course, a lot of wacky projects to go through as well. It’s kind of fun to see what other people are making and doing with what they have available. There are a lot of projects that involve taking apart electronics and it seems that every fifth design has something to do with LEDs or home lighting. The skill sets for being able to accomplish some of these projects ranges from amateur to expert with everything in between.

The great part about Instructibles.com is all the photos that usually accompany each project. Each main step has a photo and then each step also has more photos once you click on it. The navigation of the site is a little tricky at first, but you’ll soon get used to looking over the summary photos of a project and then clicking on each step for more details. I’ve found that the sight loads little slowly at times, so be patient and you’ll be rewarded!
