Free design and home improvement magazines from Lowes
Some of the free magazines available from Lowes.com

A large part of the fun of having home that needs fixing up is thinking up new ideas for what you can do to improve your home. And while there are plenty of books and magazines you can spend money on that are filled with unique ideas, its nice to sometimes get those ideas delivered right to your doorstep for free.

The hardware store chain Lowes offers just such a free magazine. In fact, they offer three different free magazines which you can subscribe to right on their website. The three magazines are:

Garden Club: Filled with lawn and garden ideas and tips, including planting times, fertilizer schedules and featuring some new gardening products you might not otherwise learn about.

Creative Ideas: Usually covering half interior projects and half exterior projects, this magazine mostly centers on ways of decorating your home or little tricks and tips to use the space in your home more efficiently or more creatively.

Woodpost: For the amateur and expert wood worker, each issue of Woodpost offers at least two detailed wood project plans, materials lists and instructions. They also feature some of the new woodworking tools and equipment being used and usually have some answers about techniques used when building things with wood. Though I’m still at the amateur level this is my favorite one. I keep these issues in my “projects” library in my garage.

The magazines come out quarterly and of course they’re filled with products you can get at Lowes, but they are really filled with some unique ideas and even some detailed building plans.

You can go to Lowes.com and sign up for an account. Once you’ve done that you can simply go into your account options and choose which magazines you wish to subscribe to. It doesn’t cost anything, though you will have to give them a mailing address. In addition to the regular quarterly print magazines you can also subscribe to a number of different email newsletters that are sent directly to you.

Even better, if you want to catch up on an issue you missed or you just don’t want to subscribe to the magazines, Lowes has created an entire site filled with articles and ideas from past and current issues at LowesCreativeIdeas.com.

Sure, the entire site is sponsored by a store that wants you to buy things, but all the ideas and photos and tips and magazines are free, so you really can’t beat the price!

Free home design magazines, how cool is that. That’s smart and great business for Lowes, who isn’t looking to improve their home? For some more great ideas for your home, you should check out the new reality show Bought & Sold; http://web.hgtv.com/webhgtv/images/pac/59889/start_at_home.html?section=boughtsold,panel=videos. It’s a great show and you can really get some great tips on home decorating, remodeling and so much more. I work with HGTV and you won’t believe what happens this season. Have fun, and Good luck! The show airs Sundays at 10pm on HGTV. Have any of you seen it yet?
